When you have a pet their health is your responsibility. Health doesn’t stop at feeding them and giving them water. They need exercise, they need to not eat junk food, which many of the dog foods out there are, and sometimes they need to be deprived of things they think they should have. That is all part of being a great pet parent. There are many forms of animal abuse and cruelty.

Ok, I’m sure you’re envisioning a program where we trade dog biscuits to dogs in exchange for their AK-47s and the like. Well that’s not the case here. Canine disarming is about cutting down the canine teeth of a biting dog so he can’t do (as much) damage. Now, you may think this is a great solution! The dog is not as much of a liability, which is always a concern when someone owns a dog that bites.

Grooming your dog is one of the most important tasks that you should undertake on a constant basis throughout your dogs life. This is especially true of long haired breeds that need constant grooming, not only for appearance, but for your dog’s health.

I have a client from a few years ago who is a very nice woman and is now a friend. She hired me when she got a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix from a local pet store. I refuse to call it a breed, because it isn’t, it’s a mix. I have absolutely no issue with mixed breeds as most of mine have been mixes. What I do have a problem with is people purposely breeding 2 different breeds to make mixes and then selling them for exorbitant amounts of money and calling them “designer” dogs. Especially when there are so many perfectly great mixes, and purebreds I might add, sitting in the shelters being euthanized every day. Sorry for the rant, I’ll get back to my story now.

Today I spent my first appointment walking with a client’s dog and dog walker. The dog is a 7 mo. old, male Australian Shepherd. The dog walker has been having trouble with him jumping up & nipping at her for the first 1/2 hr of the walk, the second half he is better.

A diamond doesn’t shine till its cut properly and gold doesn’t glitter till its impurities are removed by burning. Likewise, a dog doesn’t get smart till it undergoes proper training. Dogs have been very useful to man for ages. But training and properly domesticating the dog has a three-fold benefit. The master gets an obedient pet, the dog gets praised and pampered and last but not the least, it gives a sense of safety to others in the society.

Owning a dog brings consistency and responsibility into our lives because it is mandatory we walk them or twice a day so he/she can take care of their body functions. This provides our motivation to get up and take them for their walk and to get our walk exercise into our daily schedule.

Having a dog as cute and playful as the havanese will surely bring lots of excitement and fun to your household. But having a dog such as the havanese is more than just excitement and fun. Along with being a dog owner is a number of responsibilities that must be carried out in order to have healthy and happy four-legged member of the family. One of the responsibilities is training, specifically havanese training for your havanese.

Isn’t it annoying when a dog barks or whines for apparently no reason? I’ve found that this could have actually been caused by inappropriately crate training puppies. On the other side of the argument however, this training could help you deter this habit.
